Storyboard

After reading the script, the first drawing step is to storyboard the pages: find the composition of the strip on the page, the placement of the characters, background and speech bubbles in each strip, all while being careful to respect the reading direction...

Exposition page

Exposition pages are double-page spreads of a landscape that help the reader orient themselves at the beginning of a chapter.

Iterative storyboard

At this stage, the drawing is very rough. a first draft is sent to the writer who sends it back with a few notes to adjust the storytelling, the tone, the speech bubbles or the hierarchy of importance of the strips. This storyboard is edited several times until everything works correctly

Final storyboard

Once the compositions are fixed, it is time to detail the images. I reread the script and add the backgrounds, details, atmosphere, shadow and light.

Little help

Some strips are more complex: drawing a detailed architectural background in a given perspective is not easy for everyone. It’s definitely a challenge for me. So to help me I created a section of street in 3D. I also modeled the tram car since it is a complex element that comes up many times and from different angles throughout this sequence.
